Other Assistance

In addition to the major categories of help this site features, we offer some other forms of aid to local people in need. Please call us at (608) 257-0919 between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. weekdays if you need a type of assistance noted below. (Not able to reach us directly when you call? Please leave a clear message with your name and phone number. We’ll get back to you as soon as we can.)

  • Energy assistance – We know that keeping the heat and lights on can be difficult for many households struggling to make ends meet. Conferring with utility representatives, St. Vincent de Paul provides – within limits – financial assistance for past-due energy bills to prevent disconnects or restore service for qualifying Dane County households. We also host a program to help energy-assistance recipients develop their budgeting skills.
  • Home visits – To explore what resources may help meet household needs, pairs of St. Vincent de Paul members will visit the homes of persons requesting assistance. Such a visit is typically arranged – on a scheduled basis – when assistance with utility bills or furniture is requested.
  • portable cribPortable cribs – If you have an infant or toddler in the household who lacks a proper crib, we can offer a sturdy, new portable crib for the child. This is a much safer option, of course, than a baby sleeping in the same bed with adults or other children.
  • Referrals – If we can’t help directly, we may be able to provide information about what other organization might.

IMG_5825We are not typically able to provide assistance with rent, funds for transportation or other direct outlays of money. The majority of aid we offer is in the form of direct material assistance — food, medicine, clothing, bedding or furniture, for instance — to people who qualify. In cases in which financial help is needed — with energy bills, for instance — our assistance to qualifying persons generally takes the form of partial payment to companies owed, rather than giving money directly to individuals.

If you have other questions about the assistance we offer, please contact us at (608) 257-0919.
