Thank you for considering donating to the Society St. Vincent de Paul. We are committed to helping our neighbors in need, and your donations enable us to provide assistance to those less fortunate. Many donations are given directly to those in need free of charge, and others are sold in our five stores – these sales enable us to provide food, clothing, shelter, medical care, and other necessities to those in need at our Service Center and Food Pantry. In 2010, we provided over $1.9 million in assistance to the poor, suffering, and forgotten.  Thank you for helping us help others!

Donation Pickup Information: We offer free home pickups for donations in Madison and the surrounding areas. Please see the schedule below for the days and locations of pick-ups.  The zip codes are posted as a general guideline for our pick-up boundaries; if you live in a zip code outside of Madison, we may not be able to schedule a home pick-up if you live more than a short distance outside of the nearest town.

If you are interested in donating any items in good condition and would like a home pickup, please call 278-2920 to arrange for a pickup. We will be happy to assist you. The Reception Office’s hours are:

Monday – Friday:  8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m..

Saturday:  8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Please leave a message on the answering system if you are calling outside regular business hours. We will return your call as soon as possible.

Scheduling a Pickup: We are able to schedule home pickups with 2-3 day advance notice. The pickups generally occur between the hours of  9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Due to the nature of scheduling an average of 60 stops per day throughout Dane County, and because we do not charge for this service, please understand that we are unable to schedule a specific time for your appointment.  Each truck is assigned up to 25 stops per day, and the route is not completely processed until early in the morning on the same day after all adjustments to the route have been made.  A computerized routing program plots a map for the driver that most efficiently routes him through the County, and we are unable to accurately predict how long each stop will take. We make every attempt to maximize the contributions from our generous donors by keeping our gas costs low, and we greatly appreciate your understanding. On the morning of your pickup, once each driver receives his route assignment for the day, he will call you before 10am to give you an approximate 1-2 hour time frame for when he will arrive.  

If you are not available during the 9am-5pm time frame, you are welcome to leave your items outside (weather permitting), clearly marked for the drivers, or under a covered porch or in a garage.  If it is helpful, you are also welcome to request that the driver contact you by phone 20 minutes prior to arrival.  The drivers cannot go into a home or business if no one is present.  

When preparing your items for pickup, please make sure that all small, loose items are packed in either boxes with the flaps closed or bags that are tied shut, to prevent damage during transport and to allow the drivers to properly pack the truck.  If items are not properly packed in this way, the drivers will be unable to pack them into the truck and your stop may have to be rescheduled.  Please make sure that items left outside are protected from rain and snow, as we are unable to take items that have been weather-damaged.  In most cases, furniture items should remain fully assembled, with few exceptions.  If you suspect you have an item that would require disassembly in order to be moved, please check with the Receptionist when you schedule your pickup.

St. Vincent de Paul is able to accept clothing, furniture and household items in clean, working condition that are suitable for resale in our stores.  Due to safety regulations, disposal and handling costs or resaleability, there are some items that we are unable to take. Before you schedule your pickup, please review our list of Items that we Can and Cannot Take. Please also note that final acceptance of all donated items is up to the discretion of the driver.

Donation Drop-offs at SVdP stores: For your convenience, you may also drop off any donations at our six Madison area stores.  Please click here for a list of our store hours and locations.

Donation Receipts: The drivers will bring a pre-printed receipt of your donations for tax purposes. As stated on the receipt, the donor determines the value for any donated items. We do have information from the IRS to assist you in determining the value for your donations. Please click here to see a list of recommended prices for donated items, provided by the IRS.

Large Sale Pickups: Please consider contacting us if your neighborhood, church, or organization is having a garage or rummage sale, and you would like to donate any leftover items from these sales. We can arrange for a driver to come for a pickup after the sale. Please have any small items prepared for pickup in boxes and bags, if possible. We are also able to pick up large items, such as furniture, if they are in good condition.

Clothing/Food Drives:  If you are interested in having us pick up the donations after clothing or food drives, please contact us. Before the event, we can drop off barrels to hold the items, and afterwards, pick up both the barrels and the donations. The same procedure would be followed to schedule this pickup as explained above for home and business pickups.

Drop Boxes: We have several donation boxes in Madison and the surrounding areas where you can drop off small donations. For a listing of these drop boxes, please click here.  These drop boxes are for small items only (bags of clothing, shoes and linens) that cannot be damaged by being dropped into the box.  Please do not leave any items outside the drop boxes.
